The workshop smelled of cedar shavings and hot bronze. Bezalel stood in the corner, his hands stained with dust, watching the priests move through their duties with a calm he could not replicate. He was not on the roster of leaders. He did not carry the rod or wear the ephod. He was the one who kept the tools sharp and the wood dry. When the call came to build the ark, he felt the panic of the unqualified rising in his throat. He had no title to lean on. He had no lineage of office. The room was quiet, save for the hum of the Spirit moving through the space. He looked at his hands, rough and calloused, and waited for a command he did not think he was meant to hear. The silence broke not with a voice from a throne, but with a settling in his bones. The oil was not for his rank. It was for the wood. It was for the work. He picked up his chisel. The fear did not vanish, but it stopped being the master. The work began, and the hands that trembled became steady under the weight of the divine assignment. He was not anointed to be seen. He was anointed to finish.
The Spirit Fills the Hands That Work
The podium is a small stage, but the weight of it feels like a mountain. You have written the words, but they sit on the page like foreign objects. You look at the faces in the pews and see the expectation that your voice is hollow. You wonder if the seminary degree, the years of study, the pulpit you have never held, are the real requirements for this moment. You feel like a fraud standing in a room full of people who know what they are doing. The fear is loud, but it is not the truth. It is just the echo of a lie that has lived in your head for years. Scripture puts it plainly that the Lord looks on the heart, and the Holy Spirit is the one who gives you the words to speak in this hour.
The breath God has placed in the lungs is for this specific hour. His word says, Who has made man's mouth? Have not I, the Lord? The same Spirit that moves the wind moves the tongue. The voice is not wind. It is the very instrument He chose for this task. A title is not needed to speak. The breath He provides is what is needed. The Holy Spirit is present now, shaping the words into life before they even leave the lips. The room is not empty.
The anointing is not a rank that you climb. It is a supply that meets you at the point of need. It does not ask for your resume. It does not check your credentials. It looks at the work in front of you and provides exactly what is required for that work. The oil is on the assignment, not on your status. This changes everything about how you stand at that podium. You are not performing for approval. You are delivering a message from the One who sent you. His word says that He has anointed you, and the Holy Spirit is the one who carries that message to the people in the room.
Bezalel was not a priest. He was not a king. He was a craftsman. God filled him with the Spirit for workmanship, wisdom, and understanding. The Spirit did not make him a leader to be admired. It made his hands wise to build. The assignment is not to be a theologian in a robe. It is to speak the truth of the mentor's life to the people who loved them. That is the work. The Spirit is present for that work, just as He was with Bezalel for the ark. The equipment is for what is in front, not for a position that is not held.
You were known before you were formed. The Lord did not wait for you to earn a degree to know your purpose. He ordained you for this moment. The fact that you are standing there is not an accident. It is a deliberate act of the One who sees the heart. Your lack of a pulpit is not a barrier. It is a sign that you are not relying on the system. You are relying on the Spirit. The Holy Spirit is the one who teaches you what to say. You do not have to have it all figured out. You just have to let Him speak through you. What God has written is that He knows you and has set you apart for this task.
Do not say the voice is a child, or too young, or not ready. God has sent. He is with the mouth. He is teaching what to say right now. The words are not an invention. They are His breath. When the mouth opens, it is not the voice that carries the weight. It is His. The vessel does not need to be perfect. It needs to be empty enough to be filled. The Holy Spirit is filling with the right words for the right people at the right time. The position is exactly where it needs to be.
The cup runs over because the head is anointed. It is not about your capacity. It is about His provision. You may feel empty, but the anointing is the overflow. It is the grace that meets you at the edge of your ability and pushes you beyond it. You do not need to be strong. You need to be faithful. The Lord works in you both to will and to do. He is not waiting for you to be perfect. He is working in your weakness to make His strength perfect. The Holy Spirit is the power source. You are the channel. Let the water flow. His word says that your cup runs over, and the same Spirit ensures that the overflow reaches those who need it.
Faithful is He who calls, who also will do it. The task does not have to be finished by own power. He began it. He will finish it. The job is to speak. His job is to give the words life. The author of the eulogy is not the messenger. The Holy Spirit is the one who gives the message its power. Rest is possible in that. The fear that is not enough can be let go. Enoughness is present because He is with. The assignment is ordinary, but the supply is extraordinary. Let the work be His.
Colossians 3:23 says, 'Whatever you do, do it heartily, as to the Lord and not to men.' This is not about the applause. It is about the altar. You are serving the Father, not the audience. The Holy Spirit is your guide, not the crowd. When you look at the faces in the room, remember that they are not the ones judging your performance. The Father is. And He sees your heart. He knows your fear. He knows your love for your mentor. He is using your voice to comfort, to heal, and to proclaim the truth. You are doing holy work. Stand in that truth.
The anointing abides. It is not a one-time event. It is a permanent reality. An anointing from the Holy One is present. It is not something that was lost. It is not something that needs to be chased. It is already there. The Holy Spirit is dwelling within. Performance to prove it is not needed. Trust is what is needed. When standing at that podium, the presence of the One who anointed is there. Let that presence carry. Let the words flow from the place where the Spirit lives. The room is not alone. It is never alone.
Judges 6:14 asks, 'Go in this your might, have I not sent you?' The might is not yours. It is His. The sending is not a suggestion. It is a command. You are not a volunteer. You are a sent one. The Holy Spirit is your escort. He is the one who ensures you arrive at the destination with the message intact. You do not have to be mighty. You just have to go. The Spirit is with you in the walk. He is with you in the speech. He is with you in the silence after. You are equipped. You are sent. You are enough.
Not by might, nor by power, but by My Spirit. This is the key to the whole task. Strength is not the fuel. His Spirit is. The more the attempt is made on own, the more the strain is felt. The moment the trying stops and trusting starts, the weight lifts. The Holy Spirit is the power source. The conductor is the role. Let Him play the instrument. Let Him speak the words. The author is not the channel. The work will be done. The breath will be given. The words will be spoken. The task will be finished. It is settled.
The breath in the hollow is not a metaphor. It is a reality. The Spirit is in your lungs right now. He is waiting for you to trust Him. The words are not yours. They are His. You do not need to be a theologian. You do not need a degree. You do not need a pulpit. You need to breathe. You need to speak. You need to let the Spirit move through you. The anointing is not a rank. It is a supply. It is for the work in front of you. It is for this moment. It is for this room. It is for these people. The Holy Spirit is with you. He is teaching you what to say. He is filling you with the right words. You are not alone. You are equipped. You are sent. Stand up. Place your hand on your chest. Feel the breath. Name the task. Speak the words. The Lord is with your mouth, as Scripture puts it plainly, and the work will be done.
Declare this over yourself
- Podium, you are not a place of judgment but a point of delivery. Hear the words now, for the Lord looks on the heart. The written word is alive in your mouth, and the Holy Spirit is with you.
- Fraud, leave this room and take your lie with you. The written word on the page is not a burden but a gift from the Holy Spirit. In the name of Jesus, you are equipped and sent.
- Lord, the work in front of me is Yours and I am carrying it on what You supply. The breath is here, and the anointing abides in this moment.
