The clock on the wall ticks a slow, wooden beat. The table is buried under a mountain of gray fabric. Each shirt has a tear at the shoulder, a loose button at the cuff. The light is low, yellowed by dust. A woman sits with her back against the wall, her hands resting on the pile. She picks up a needle. It is thin, sharp, and cold. She threads it. The thread is blue, thin as a whisper. She pushes it through the torn edge. Pull. Push. Pull. The motion is mechanical. Her mind is miles away, in a room with a stage, a spotlight, and a crowd waiting for a word that will change everything. She thinks about the grand work. The visible work. The work that gets noticed. She looks at the shirt in her lap. It is just a shirt. It is just a repair. She wonders if this is all she is for. The needle waits for the next push. The thread hangs in the air, a single line connecting the torn edge to the rest of the cloth. The silence in the room is heavy. The clock ticks. The tear remains. The work is not finished. The question hangs in the air, sharp and quiet. Is this needle a tool of waiting, or is it the instrument of her sending?
The Mending Is the Ministry Itself
The ache is specific. It sits in the hands before it sits in the heart. The hands know the weight of the needle, the texture of the torn fabric, the repetitive push and pull. The heart knows the distance between this task and the vision held in the back of the mind. The vision is bright. The task is gray. The distance feels like a verdict. It feels like a sign that the assignment is wrong. The needle is too small. The thread is too thin. The tear is too common. The mind searches for a grander tool, a wider stage, a louder voice. It rejects the ordinary as a placeholder. It treats the repair as a waiting room. The hands continue the work, but the soul is not there. The soul is waiting for the next shift to begin. The waiting is the real burden. The work is just the weight of the waiting. The ache is not about the shirt. It is about the meaning of the mending. It is about the fear that this is all there is. The fear that the grand work will never come. The fear that the needle is the end of the line.
You are not in a waiting room. You are in the assignment. The Holy Spirit is in the thread, in the needle, in the tear. What God has written is plain. The Lord does not see as man sees. He looks on the heart. The heart is here, in the mending. The Spirit is not waiting for a stage. The Spirit is here, in the small, repetitive push and pull. The anointing is not for a grander task. The anointing is for this task. The needle is not a tool of waiting. The needle is the instrument of sending. The tear is not a flaw in the assignment. The tear is the assignment. The Holy Spirit is with you in the thread. The work is the ministry. The mending is the ministry itself.
The thread is not a line to a bigger picture. The thread is the weave. The weave is the structure. The structure is what holds. Without the weave, the cloth tears. Without the mending, the community falls apart. The grand work is not above the mending. The grand work is the mending. The visible work is not separate from the ordinary work. The visible work is the ordinary work, seen in the light of the Spirit. The needle does not build a stage. The needle holds the tear. The tear is held. The cloth remains. The community remains. The work is done. The work is holy. The work is the ministry. The mending is the ministry itself. The thread is the weave. The weave is the whole.
You have the skill required, for what God has written is that He filled Bezalel with the Spirit of God, in wisdom and understanding and knowledge and in all manner of workmanship. The Holy Spirit has filled you with the same measure. The skill is not something you chase. The needle moves because the Spirit moves through it. The thread holds because the Spirit holds it. The tear is closed because the Spirit closes it. The work is sufficient. The work is complete. The work is from God. The skill is not yours. The skill is His. The hands are His hands. The work is His work. The mending is the ministry itself. The thread is the weave.
The tear is not a failure. The tear is an invitation. The invitation is to hold. The invitation is to sustain. The invitation is to keep the cloth together. The grand work is not to build a new cloth. The grand work is to keep the old cloth from tearing. The tear is the place where the Spirit works. The tear is the place where the anointing lands. The tear is the place where the community is saved. The needle enters the tear. The thread passes through. The tear is closed. The cloth is whole. The work is done. The work is holy. The work is the ministry. The mending is the ministry itself. The thread is the weave.
You were ordained for this, for Scripture puts it plainly that before you were formed in the womb you were known and you were ordained. The Holy Spirit is upon you. The Spirit has anointed you. The anointing is not a rank. The anointing is a supply. The supply is for this work. The work is the assignment. The assignment is the mending. The mending is the ministry itself. The thread is the weave. The weave is the whole.
The work is not small. The work is not lesser. The work is not a placeholder. The work is the assignment. The assignment is the mending. The mending is the ministry. The ministry is the work. The work is the weave. The weave is the cloth. The cloth is the community. The community is the body. The body is the church. The church is the kingdom. The kingdom is the work. The work is the mending. The mending is the ministry itself. The thread is the weave.
You are sufficient, for what God has written is that your sufficiency is from God, and the same Spirit dwells within the work. The Spirit is in the needle. The Spirit is in the thread. The Spirit is in the tear. The work is His. The hands are His. The mending is the ministry itself. The thread is the weave. The weave is the whole.
The work is done. The tear is closed. The cloth is whole. The community is held. The work is holy. The work is the ministry. The mending is the ministry itself. The thread is the weave. The weave is the whole. The whole is the work. The work is the mending. The mending is the ministry itself. The thread is the weave.
The needle is in your hand. The thread is in the needle. The tear is in the cloth. The Spirit is in the room. The anointing is in the work. The work is the assignment. The assignment is the mending. The mending is the ministry itself. The thread is the weave. The weave is the whole. The whole is the work. The work is the mending. The mending is the ministry itself. The thread is the weave. The needle is the instrument of sending. The tear is the assignment. The mending is the ministry itself. The thread is the weave.
Declare this over yourself
- Waiting room, you are closed and the work in front of me is the assignment. I trust that the supply is already on the tear.
- Written word, you declare that the fear of a smaller tool is evicted. I move in the power of the Holy Spirit.
- Lord, the anointing in this work is the ministry itself. I am sent into tomorrow in the name of Jesus.
